Throat Theory is an 18+ social and dating platform for adult gay and bisexual men, operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], United States (the "data controller"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. For any privacy question or request, contact privacy@throattheory.com.
We use your information to: create and operate your account; verify you are an adult; show and match profiles; keep the platform safe (moderation, fraud/abuse prevention, and scanning uploads for illegal content); process payments; send you service and lifecycle emails; provide customer support; comply with our legal obligations; and improve the Service. Where the law requires a legal basis (for example, in the UK/EU), we rely on performance of our contract with you, your consent (which you can withdraw), our legitimate interests in running a safe platform, and compliance with legal obligations.
We use Brevo (Sendinblue) as our email service provider to send account, safety, and lifecycle emails. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out of non-essential email at any time. We may still send essential service messages (for example, security or billing notices).
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to keep the Service secure. We keep non-essential tracking to a minimum. Where required in your region, we ask for consent before setting non-essential cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
We scan uploaded media for known illegal content (including child sexual abuse material) and policy violations. Where the law requires, we preserve and report relevant data to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca), and/or law enforcement. These legal obligations can override a deletion request for the specific data the law requires us to retain.
We share personal data only with: (a) service providers acting on our behalf under contract — including hosting, age/identity verification, payment processing, email delivery, and content moderation; (b) authorities, where legally required or to protect safety; and (c) a successor party in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice to you. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We keep your data while your account is active and for as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, then delete or anonymize it — except records we are legally required to keep (such as certain safety, transaction, and §2257-related records). When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, subject to those legal retention requirements.
You can edit your profile, control location sharing, opt out of marketing email, and delete your account in-app at any time. Depending on where you live, you also have additional legal rights:
To exercise any right, email privacy@throattheory.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time your law requires.
We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, rate limiting, and abuse monitoring. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information and will notify you and regulators of a data breach where the law requires.
The Service is strictly for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has accessed the Service, we will terminate the account and delete the data, reporting where legally required.
We are based in the United States, and your data may be processed there and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers of UK/EU data.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date and, where appropriate, notice in the app.
